USA: the controversy over Biden's measures to write off student debts

First modification:

Forgiving part of the debt that some 43 million students in the US have was one of Joe Biden’s campaign promises, and which he announced a week ago as a reality. A forgiveness of up to $20,000 for those who meet certain requirements. But while the White House claims this would help offset the economic damage from the pandemic, critics cast the move as an electoral wink to win youth votes in November’s midterm elections.

Is debt forgiveness relief for the most disadvantaged or an electoral tool with state money? We analyze it in this edition of El Debate from the hand of our guests:

– Juan Manuel Guzmán, director of state policies for the NGO United We Dream.

– Laura Bustamante, current graduate student and campaign and policy manager for the New Jersey Alliance for Immigrant Justice.
