BERLIN, Sep. 6 (DPA/EP) –
The German Foreign Minister, Annalena Baerbock, warned on Tuesday that, in its flight from Russian energy dependence, Germany could be subordinated to the interests of autocratic countries.
“We cannot afford to act a second time (moved by) the hope that these autocratic governments will not be so bad,” warned the highest representative of German diplomacy during an economic act.
In this sense, Baerbock has alluded to Germany’s dependence on raw materials from China and has urged the country’s large energy companies not to forget the living and political conditions that exist in the Asian nation.
This is why he has called on business representatives not to act “without taking into account long-term risks and dependencies.”
On the other hand, Baerbock has accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of threatening Western powers with the closure of the Nord Stream gas pipeline. “We will not fall for this blackmail,” the German representative asserted.
Along these lines, the Foreign Minister has pointed out that the price of gas from Russia has “never” been cheap, but what has made the price decrease at times has been the “blind dependence” on Russian energy.
