Scholz highlights climate change and inflation as some big topics on the eve of the G7 summit

BERLIN, June 25. (DPA/EP) –

The German chancellor, Olaf Scholz, has proposed the creation of a “climate club” to face climate change and resolve the current energy crisis, as well as the promotion of cooperation policies against inflation, in a video message broadcast this Saturday , on the eve of the G-7 summit that begins tomorrow at Elmau Castle in the Bavarian Alps.

In it, the chancellor has also referred to the need to seek solutions during the summit on the growing price inflation.

“Many things we buy have become more expensive. Food, but especially energy prices. We notice it at the gas station, we notice it when we have to pay the heating bill. Heating oil, gas… everything It is much more expensive than a year ago. That is why we have to prepare for it,” he said.

The chancellor has defended a policy of coordination “because we can only face together the challenges that this new situation poses to all of us”.

“This discussion club began as the G6 with six countries, when (then Chancellor) Helmut Schmidt called everyone together to talk about how to deal with the oil crisis at that time,” he explained.

He opined that now it is about the current crisis and stopping man-made climate change by abandoning the use of fossil fuels. One of the tasks, he added, is to create a “climate club” in which interested states work together to achieve these goals.
