A Palestinian has died this Wednesday after being shot by the Israeli military after an attempted attack with a knife in the surroundings of the West Bank town of Qalqilia, amid the upsurge in violence in the area in recent months.
The Israeli Army has indicated in its account on the social network Twitter that “an armed assailant arrived at a military post” adjacent to the Kdumim settlement and “attempted to stab a soldier”. “The assailant was neutralized by the soldiers present in the area. There are no injuries in the ranks of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF),” he added.
For its part, the Palestinian Ministry of Health has highlighted through its Facebook account that the deceased is Aref Abdelnaser Aref LahlĂș, 20 years old. Thus, he has stated that the man “has fallen a martyr” for “shots fired by the occupying forces.”
The United Nations warned last week that “the dangerous cycle of violence” between Israelis and Palestinians is causing a “devastating” number of deaths and stressed that “the violence must end.”
