The president of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page, has officially accepted this Friday to be the PSOE candidate for re-election for the Presidency of the Community Board in the regional elections on May 28.

93 days after the elections and during an act in Cañete (Cuenca), García-Page formally became the socialist candidate in the region, in what will be his third candidacy after two legislatures governing the autonomous community.

His first candidacy for the Presidency of the Community Board, after having been mayor of Toledo since 2007, was in the 2015 elections, in which he faced the ‘popular’ candidate, María Dolores de Cospedal, after four years of the PP’s mandate, and that is why García-Page wanted to give special meaning to the announcement that he is running for re-election, doing so at the inauguration of the Cañete residence, a work that was paralyzed by Cospedal.

In 2019 his political adversary in the Popular Party of Castilla-La Mancha was Paco Núñez, who also repeats as a candidate for the May elections.

In this way, it will be the third time that García-Page aspires to become regional president again, after governing in the legislature from 2015 to 2019 with an agreement with Podemos and the absolute majority that he has enjoyed since 2019. to 2023.

In addition, his third candidacy has not had any opponent within the socialist ranks and has been possible thanks to the elimination of the limitation of eight years at the head of the Presidency that was approved in the regional Parliament in July 2019, with the votes to favor of PSOE and PP.

Stage the announcement in parallel to the presentation of the confluence of United We Can

The Castilian-Manchego president staged the announcement during the inauguration of a residence for the elderly paralyzed by Cospedal and he did so while in Toledo Unidas Podemos also officially presented the confluence of leftists that will compete in the regional elections headed by José Luis García Gascón, regional leader of We can.

“We have spent many years trying to recover what was stopped. And for this reason, in a symbolic moment for me, here, in the heart of Spain, I want to say that today, first thing in the morning, before leaving, I have signed a document agreeing to be my party’s candidate again”, he expressly said. García-Page, according to Europa Press.

Something that “for some may be important, for others not”, but ultimately a step that he takes “fundamentally for various reasons”, such as that his party allows him, accepts and assumes that for him “Spain is far ahead of his own game”. “If they didn’t accept that, I couldn’t accept being a candidate.”

On the other hand, he accepts because “there is a lot to recover”, since “there are many companies” to come, important projects in all the provinces in a region that offers “normalcy, common sense and moderation”.
