The German Parliament has approved this Friday the withdrawal of the ban on the controversial ban on abortion advertising, a project that has received the vote against the conservative alliance between the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU) and the Union Bavarian Christian Social (CSU) and the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.
The move involves the removal of paragraph 219a of German law, which prohibited advertising about abortion, leading to situations where doctors could not properly inform patients about abortion without risking a lawsuit.
In addition to lifting the ban, allowing doctors to freely provide information, the law change will exonerate all doctors who have been charged with breaking the law on the basis of paragraph 219a since October 3, 1990.
The Justice Minister, Marco Buschmann, has described the legislation as “absurd and outdated”, while the Family Minister, Lisa Paus, has stressed that it is “a great day” and that “the health and self-determination of women are human rights.
For their part, the representatives of the CDU/CSU union and the far-right AfD have pointed out that women already have many opportunities to find out about abortion and that the rights of the unborn child should not be restricted, according to the German information agency. dpa news.
