Until Friday, July 21, photographs of Los Ríos wetlands will be received in the photographic contest organized by the Regional Government of Los Ríos and Edáfica, Suelos y Medio Ambiente. This call aims to highlight the environmental and social relevance of these unique ecosystems.
Lorenzo Palma, Science in Chile.-With the aim of offering a greater opportunity for participation and in response to the enthusiasm generated among the citizens of Los Ríos, the period to participate in the “Humedales de Los Ríos 2023” photographic contest has been extended until Friday, July 21 at 11:00 p.m.: 59 hours.
Amateur, beginner and/or professional photographers will have the opportunity to capture the essence of wetlands in three different categories until July 21. Photographs taken with any type of device can participate: cell phones, semi-professional cameras, professionals, among other equipment. The contest seeks the participation of all types of amateurs and professionals in the area.
In the category of “Biodiversity of wetlands”, which seeks to highlight the incredible variety of flora, fauna and fungi that make up these unique ecosystems. If you prefer to highlight the amazing beauty and interrelational connection of these natural spaces, the category “Landscape of wetlands” is perfect for you. Also, if you are aware of the threats that wetlands face and want to raise awareness, participate in the “Threats” category, where they will be able to expose the environmental problems that affect them.
Camila Molina, general coordinator of the Los Humedales Comprehensive Diagnosis study, invites you to participate in this call, “people of any nationality who have an identification number may participate, it does not matter if they do not reside in the Los Ríos region, but it is requirement that the photographs have been taken in a wetland of the communes that form it.
First place will take home $100,000, second place will receive $50,000 and to add even more excitement there will be a $50,000 People’s Choice Award.
The Comprehensive Diagnosis of Wetlands has confirmed the presence of an extensive area of 157 thousand hectares of wetlands in the region. These wetlands cover a diversity of types, from marine and coastal, such as estuaries, marshes and beaches, to continental ones, such as ñadis, mallines, vegas, pajonales, peat bogs, hualves, rivers and lakes. In addition, we find artificial wetlands, such as reservoirs and dams. In all these spaces, photographic creativity has a prominent place, and it is an unmissable opportunity to participate in our 2023 photographic contest.
