Rainbow Six Siege significantly reduces cheaters thanks to the detection of users with mouse and keyboard on console

Ubisoft has analyzed the latest progress in its fight against cheaters in Rainbow Six Siege, which, like all online multiplayer games, faces this scourge with different tools. The latest initiative called MouseTrap penalizes the use of the mouse and keyboard on the console by adding additional latency, and according to the company it has proven to be a success with a reduction in cheaters of more than 70%.

When Ubisoft activated MouseTrap almost three months ago, I expected that the number of spoofers, a name given to gamers looking to gain an advantage by using third-party hardware to use mouse and keyboard on console, was reduced moderately, with preliminary results estimated to be between 30% and 50%. “However, the data we have collected has exceeded our expectations and has shown a significant reduction in the number of users with mouse and keyboard on console,” says the development team.

Specifically, MouseTrap has caused a 78% reduction in the total number of spoofers in Rainbow Six Siege. If we look only at ranked matches, the reduction is similar, 73% less than spoofers.

One of the features of MouseTrap is that it does not kick out cheaters, but rather adds additional latency to them. In this way, Ubisoft wants to give them the opportunity to change their behavior and play fair, something that in some cases has been achieved. “Today, we can confirm that this method and the new system have contributed to a change in behavior: when detected by MouseTrap, many users switched to controller or PC. Our data shows that after the first penalty, 43% of users continued to play without further penalties,” explains Ubisoft.

Like Ubisoft, other companies like Bungie (Destiny), Activision (Call of Duty) and Epic Games (Fortnite) are also fighting against console users who resort to third-party hardware (XIM, Cronus or ReaSnow) to use keyboard and mouse. .

Another of the tools that Ubisoft uses to fight rogues in Rainbow Six Siege is QB, which has been running since November 2022 with the aim of making cheat development more tedious on PC. “We have had fantastic results with this system, which has already resulted in over 10,000 cheaters being penalized, and this is just the beginning!” says the development team. The publisher claims that thanks to QB “several cheat vendors have stopped creating cheats for Siege.” He also claims that he has received “a lot of positive feedback” from the community.
