EA Confirms FIFA 23 Will Keep Loot Boxes in Ultimate Team Mode

Electronic Arts (EA) has confirmed that the new edition of the FIFA 23 will maintain some characteristics of the previous video games of the saga, such as the ‘loot boxes’ or loot boxeswhich will still be present in the mode UltimateTeam.

Also called reward chests are mysterious claims that are integrated into the narrative of video games and that consumers buy with real money to obtain a series of advantages and objects destined for the game.

These elements have generated great controversy within the video game industry and at the state level, so that its regulation has become one of the priorities bodies such as the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, in the case of Spain.

Among some of the countries that have already restricted the ‘loot boxes’ are the Netherlands and Belgium, where the Immortal Devil title has not been released for this reason.

Despite the fact that more and more organizations have expressed their concern about these elements integrated into the game, EA has recently confirmed that it will not remove them from its next FIFA 23 release.

As published Eurogamerthe company has assured that it will maintain this in-game monetization system for the Ultimate Team mode of the game, after the company received the green light due to the recent decision by the British Government to not legislate the ‘loot boxes’.

This Government has determined that it does not consider that reward boxes can be regulated in the same way as games of chance, so that it will not implement changes in its corresponding Law of the game; hence EA plans to keep the ‘loot boxes’ in its sports product.

“We truly believe that Ultimate Team and Fifa Ultimate Team (FUT) ‘packs’ have been a part of the game for over a decade, they are a part of FIFA that players love […] Giving players the option to buy them is fair,” the developer said in a statement reported to this medium.

In this writing EA has also pointed out that “spending is totally optional” and that it does not encourage its players “to spend more than to earn rewards through the game” and has recalled that the ‘packs’ in this way “they work the same way, whether they are paid or earned.

Among other features that will be integrated into the new version of the franchise, which will hit stores at the end of September, thematic challenges based on real life, pre-season events and FUT campaigns stand out.
