The Government of the United States has considered a “serious threat” the recent announcement by the Iranian Armed Forces of its latest model of ‘Jorramshahr’-type ballistic missile, with a range of up to 2,000 kilometers and with the capacity to carry a 1,500-kilogram warhead. .

“As we have made clear, Iran’s development and proliferation of ballistic missiles poses a serious threat to regional and international security and remains a significant nonproliferation challenge,” said State Department spokesman Matthew Miller, at a press conference.

Thus, he remarked that the US authorities are using “a series of non-proliferation tools to counter the advance of Iran’s ballistic missile programs”, in reference to the numerous sanctions packages applied.

“Despite the restrictions imposed on Iran’s missile-related activities (…), Iran continues to seek a number of missile technologies from foreign suppliers and conduct ballistic missile tests, in defiance of the resolution” of the Security Council of the UN, Miller explained.

In this sense, he has reiterated that if Tehran has “a nuclear weapon, it would probably act in an even more provocative way, and that is why we are so committed to preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon”, he has settled.
