Virtual participation of the Argentine Foreign Minister in the Forum on Future Cooperation between the Republic of Korea and Latin America and the Caribbean

The “Forum on Future Cooperation between the Republic of Korea and Latin America and the Caribbean” was held yesterday in Busan, of which The Foreign Minister of Argentina participated in virtual format, Santiago Cafiero, together with high authorities of that country and representatives of Latin American countries. The forum was organized in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations of the Republic of Korea with Argentina and other Latin American countries.

Korea is a relevant trading partner for Argentina on the Asian continent. In 2021, Argentine exports to that country reached a record value of 1,720 million USD. Likewise, it is an investor in strategic areas for the development of the energy transition in Argentina, such as lithium.

The theme of the event included exchanges on cooperation for economic strengthening through the expansion of supply chains, the mining industry, energy transition and digital transformation, among other sectors with the potential to strengthen ties between the Republic of Korea and the Latin America and the Caribbean region.

The official focused on sustainable development, in line with the 2030 Agenda and its Objectives. He stressed that Argentina is positioned at the regional level for a successful integration into a new era marked by the digitalization and automation of daily life, as well as by the consequences of climate change, “thanks to its highly qualified human capital, scientific-technological development and the abundance of natural resources needed for the energy transition.”

Additionally, it provided the guidelines of the “Green Productive Development Plan”, which includes a set of initiatives to implement a new sustainable, inclusive and environmentally responsible paradigm in production systems, and which arose from our country’s commitment to the global agenda to combat climate change.

To conclude, Cafiero highlighted the process of developing the National Hydrogen Strategy, with the aim of consolidating Argentina as a forerunner in the world economy of this key energy vector for the energy transition.
