The spokesman for the Secretary General of the United Nations, Stéphane Dujarric, described this Monday as “deplorable” the “new wave” of air attacks and bombardments that Ukraine has suffered in recent days, and more specifically the attack of a missile that has impacted in the Kremenchuk shopping center and that has left 16 dead.
“Just a few hours ago, our colleagues in Ukraine have claimed that a missile has hit the center of Kremenchuk, which until recently had not been impacted by the war. A shopping center has been hit and the authorities believe there may be a large number of civilians inside,” Dujarric said at a press conference, adding that “any attack that hits a shopping center is totally deplorable.”
Dujarric has detailed that over the weekend the capital, kyiv, “has been hit again”, damaging a residential building and leaving some people trapped in the rubble. Russian troops have also attacked in western parts of the country, far from the front lines, according to the spokesman for the General Secretariat.
“Fighting also continues in the Donbas region, where our humanitarian colleagues face enormous challenges in reaching people who are in increasing need. The challenges are not only due to insecurity, but also due to lack of access due to to the administrative restrictions imposed by the parties”, explained Dujarric.
“We insist once again that the parties are obliged, under international humanitarian law, to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure,” he added.
