Ukraine’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Andrei Melnik, has pointed out that the country’s authorities hope to have at least a hundred Western tanks, mainly German Leopards, within three months.
In Melnik’s own words, the Leopards make up a large part of the Western tank fleet that Ukraine may have access to in the short term. According to him, there are about 2,000 of these tanks that could be quickly supplied to the Ukrainian Army.
“The Leopards can be sent quickly from Poland, from Germany or from other countries. I hope we have at least a hundred of these tanks (…). It is realistic to have them if we talk about a period of three months,” he said, collects Ukrinform .
However, Melnik has warned that it is necessary for Ukraine to “make new orders for next year, or in two years”, thus anticipating possible future requests such as those seen in recent months, where kyiv has intensified its pressure on Berlin to Unlock Leopard’s shipment.
In fact, several senior Ukrainian officials, such as the Foreign Minister, Dimitro Kuleba, or President Volodimir Zelenski himself, have now pointed out that their requests for arms supplies will revolve around combat planes with which to face Russia in the framework of a war that is already heading towards its first anniversary.
