Trains and classes are suspended in Liaoning, China due to the rainy season

Eight cities in northeast China’s Liaoning province activated level IV emergency response against heavy downpours on Monday, as local railway authorities suspended the operation of 44 passenger trains.

In Shenyang, the provincial capital of Liaoning, kindergartens, primary and secondary schools were closed on Monday as a precaution against heavy rain.

According to the provincial meteorological department, Liaoning is expected to see its most intense storms this year between Monday and Tuesday, which are likely to trigger disasters such as mountain torrents, landslides and landslides.

Rainfall is expected to reach 200 millimeters from south to north, with a maximum hourly rainfall intensity of 70 millimeters.

The local fire and rescue department has set up 116 alert points in the flood-prone areas, where about 1,000 people have been mobilized to stand guard and a total of 250 vehicles and 150 boats have been prepared.

Heavy and persistent rains have continued to pummel parts of China, causing rivers to overflow their banks, triggering landslides and prompting the relocation of people in recent days.

China’s National Meteorological Center on Sunday renewed its yellow alert for severe weather threats, including thunderstorms and downpours, in many parts of the country, advising local authorities in these areas to prepare for rainstorms, gales, windstorms and hail, and watch for flash floods, landslides, and rockfalls.

China has a four-tier color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe warning, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
