The Powerball jackpot grows to US$ 1,000 million after there was no winner in this Monday’s draw

() — The Powerball jackpot rose to an estimated $1 billion after no tickets matched all six numbers in Monday night’s drawing.

The winning numbers were 17, 8, 9, 41, 5 and the red Powerball 21.

This Monday’s grand prize ranks as the third-biggest Powerball jackpot and the seventh-biggest US Lottery jackpot, according to Powerball. The largest Powerball jackpot in history of $2.04 billion was won in California on November 7.

The next drawing is this Wednesday, where the estimated jackpot is $1 billion with a cash value of $516.8 million.

The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million, says Powerball in its website.

There have been 38 consecutive drawings without a jackpot winner since the drawing on April 19, when a ticket in Ohio matched all six numbers to win a jackpot valued at $252.6 million.

In Saturday’s drawing, while no one hit the grand prize, three tickets sold in Colorado and Texas matched all five white balls to each win $1 million prizes, according to Powerball.

The Powerball isn’t the only lottery jackpot this week. Mega Millions jackpot winnings grew to an estimated $640 million after there were no winners last Friday, according to its website.

The next Mega Millions drawing will be this Tuesday at 11:00 pm ET.
