The 'Olympia Law' is approved in Argentina

“This reform, as in Mexico, was built from the territory, from the provinces and it was thanks to the voice and struggle of women,” Olimpia Coral Melo, creator of the law that bears her name, shared with this outlet.

He local outlet Mil Patagonias published that this is an initiative that civil society organizations have been demanding for a long time through different actions, which included an online campaign that collected more than 50,000 signatures.

The Olimpia Law was promoted by Olimpia Coral, originally from Huauchinango, Puebla, after the dissemination of an intimate video without her consent, which led her to create the set of laws that make up the Olimpia Law and promote projects that regulate digital violence, approved since 2021 in Mexico.

According to Coral, the approval in Argentina “marks a milestone for the countries of South America because it is a law that is made with the voice of the victims in comparison with the laws that are made in other territories.”

Although the Chamber of Senators approved with a vast majority, the vote of the Senate of the Republic is still pending.
