The NVIDIA RTX 4080 is a beast in gaming: close to the RTX 4090 and better than the RTX 3090 Ti, according to benchmarks

A month ago we brought the analysis of the NVIDIA RTX 4090, the Graphic card most powerful in the world. In it we made it clear that we had never tried anything like it and that we really wanted to analyze the NVIDIA RTX 4080, his “little sister”. Things have happened since then, like a renaming.

Well, today, November 10, a lot of benchmarks of the next GeForce-RTX 4080 from NVIDIA (previously known as RTX 4080 16 GB) and the data is really interesting. And more when the RTX 4090 is for 2,500 euros and going up right now.

Someone with access to a sample of the RTX 4080 and its drivers has put it to the test with a battery of benchmarks and video games. The graphics card, with an official retail price of €1,469, was tested in 3DMark Time Spy, Port Royal, and in games such as Forza Horizon 5, Call of Duty Modern Warfare II, Cyberpunk 2077, Borderlands 3, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

As well, the RTX 4080 is halfway between the RTX 3090 Ti and the RTX 4090, something that was to be expected. With factory settings and passing the 3DMark Time Spy Extreme test (in 4K), the 4080 manages to offer 71% of the performance of an RTX 4090, while the RTX 3090 Ti remains at 55%.

It remains as the second most powerful graphics card on the market

Things change slightly with 3DMark Port Royal, another of the classic 3DMark tests, where the RTX 4080 has 69% of the performance of the RTX 4090 in a test where the RTX 3090 Ti achieves 58% of the benchmark GeForce .

The game tests present a slightly different story, with the RTX 4080 performing closer to the RTX 4090 in almost every game. In Forza Horizon 5, the RTX 4090 is just 15.7% faster than the RTX 4080. It’s also just 7.9% faster in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II.

Nevertheless, the RTX 4090 wins by 30 points to the RTX 4080 in Shadow of the Tomb Raider (+39%) and Cyberpunk 2077 (+37%). This can be for many reasons, so we would keep the average between each other until the official tests come out.

Taking these figures into account, it can be inferred that the NVIDIA RTX 4080 it’s going to be a lot more powerful than the current 10GB RTX 3080. And, what really matters, better card than the current reference of the last generation, the RTX 3090 Ti. It remains as the second best GPU.
