The Kremlin "does not rule out" that Putin travel to India and China in the coming months

July 25 () –

The deputy spokesman for the Kremlin, Yuri Ushakov, has left the door open on Tuesday for Russian President Vladimir Putin to travel to India and China in the months of October and September, respectively.

According to Ushakov, Russia “has received an invitation” to participate in the G20 summit, scheduled for early September in the Indian capital, New Delhi, and “does not rule out” Putin’s participation in person.

On the other hand, the deputy spokesman for the Kremlin has pointed out that Putin “intends” to travel to China in October to participate in the One Belt, One Road, an international cooperation forum, according to Interfax.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an international arrest warrant in mid-March for Putin and the Commissioner for Children’s Rights, Maria Lvova Belova. Both could be arrested if they travel to countries ascribed to the Rome Statute.

This is the main reason why President Putin will not participate in person at the summit of the BRICS bloc -Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa- in Johannesburg in the middle of next August.

However, neither India nor China signed the Rome Statute, so in these cases Putin could travel to both countries without fear of being arrested before a court of the ICC, which accuses him of war crimes for the forced transfer of minors in Ukraine.
