Intel is still pending launch of its Intel Arc graphics cards for desktop computers, which according to the latest rumors will be presented progressively until September 29. These Intel Arc have shown us that they work great with DirectX 12but that its performance is not as good with Vulkan or with DirectX 11. In addition to this, the Intel Arc do not have native support for DirectX 9an API that still it’s used in games like Counter-Strike with many users.

In order for these games to run on the Intel Arc, Intel has provided DirectX 9 compatibility to your graphics cards Thanks to the Microsoft D3D9on12 tool which converts DirectX9 instructions to DirectX 12 instructions. This open source tool will allow these old games to run using this conversion method, although most also have support for newer APIs.

Since DirectX 9 is about 20 years old, converting to DirectX 12 using this tool shouldn’t affect performance of these games that usually have old graphics. It also means that if there is any problem in converting from DirectX 9 to DirectX 12 it will have to be fixed by Microsoft through this conversion tool. This way Intel can focus on polishing the graphics with DirectX 12 and try optimize your graphics for DirectX 11 still present in many games.
