Taiwan detects 38 fighters and nine Chinese Army ships in its vicinity

July 12 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Taiwan authorities have reported this Wednesday that they have detected 28 fighters and nine ships of the Chinese Armed Forces in the vicinity of the island due to the increase in tension between the parties.

The Taiwanese Ministry of Defense has indicated that at 6:00 a.m. (local time) the presence of almost 40 aircraft has been registered around Taiwan, of which 32 have crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait and have entered the identification zone of air defense of the island.

Taiwanese authorities, for their part, have deployed several air and sea patrols to monitor the situation, in addition to several ground-based missile systems, according to a statement.

The situation around Taiwan worsened starting last year after the visit of the now former Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, which was followed by a visit to Washington by a Taiwanese delegation.

Ties between China and the island of Taiwan, which it considers to be another province under its sovereignty, were severed in 1949, after the forces of the nationalist Kuomintang party suffered a defeat in the civil war against the Communist Party and moved to the archipelago. Relations were re-established only at the business and informal level in the late 1980s.
