Sony will withdraw the praise functionality (Accolades) introduced in the PlayStation 5 due to the presence of similar functionalities in some games compatible with the console, in addition to the general ignorance of its presence, as we can read in Eurogamer.
For those who don’t know (most of us), Commendations can be awarded to other players in online games to praise their play, so both teammates and opponents can be welcoming, helpful, and in some cases annoying. as we can read on the PlayStation website, this functionality will be retired in autumn 2022.
The same website explains that “The function has not had the level of use that we anticipated, so we are refocusing our efforts. We encourage the community to continue sending positive messages to each other.” This call to action is likely refers to using the built-in services in some games.
Sony included a number of features in the user interface with the launch of the PS5, not just praise, although in this case it has been the aforementioned praise that has had to say goodbye to the players to move forward with console firmware development.
