sonic gets a much-needed facelift. The classic games where you had to move across a map horizontally at high speed will take an unexpected turn for the PS5, Xbox Series X and PC consoles. SEGA was present at the Summer Game Fest 2023 event, where he shared the first preview of Sonic Superstars, a title that brings together the classic characters of the franchise in a new adventure.
Sonic and his inseparable friends, including Tails, Knuckles and Amy Rose, embark on an exciting odyssey to the exotic North Star Islands, a place full of unexplored landscapes and a mysterious plot to discover. The islands are home to huge creatures, exciting adventures, and of course, Dr. Eggman’s evil plans. Heroes can now unlock abilities called Emerald Powers by collecting Chaos Emeralds.
The game, scheduled for Q4 2023, will be released in both digital and physical formats, with a starting price of USD $59.99. It will be available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

In the first trailer, you can already see some new mechanics, such as the multiplayer version and rotating stages. In addition, 3D maps are used to add more layers of complexity to the levels, of course the underwater levels are not left out, where gamers must play with friends to get the most coins.
The main features of Sonic Superstars include:
- 2D Platformer Sonic Evolved: Sonic’s classic 2D platforming has been reimagined for the next generation, with new zones, music, gameplay and modern UHD visuals only possible thanks to 3D graphics.
- your favorite characters: Play as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy Rose to combat Dr. Eggman, his old nemesis Fang, and thwart his evil plans. Naoto Ohshima, the designer of Sonic, also brings a new character to the plot.
- Seven Emerald Powers: Players can harness the power of the seven Chaos Emeralds to unlock special abilities, such as creating clones, climbing waterfalls, powering up their character, and much more.
- Cooperative multiplayer game: Sonic Superstars introduces four-player local cooperative play, allowing fans to enjoy the campaign alone or with friends.
With Sonic Superstars, SEGA promises another incredible installment in the Sonic series, inviting new and returning fans alike to immerse themselves in an adventure that redefines the iconic platformer.
