Seven people arrested in Sydney (Australia) in raids related to the knife attack in a church

April 24 () –

Australian security forces have arrested seven people in a series of raids in the city of Sydney in connection with the stabbing attack carried out last week by a teenager in a church, which left four people injured, including priest who officiated the mass.

The New South Wales Police have indicated that all those arrested are teenagers and have added that another five people – two adults and three minors – are collaborating with the investigations into the attack at the church in Wakeley, led by the Police Team. Anti-Terrorist Joint (JCTT).

Likewise, it has stressed in a statement published on its website that the agents have seized “a series of objects”, including “a significant amount of computer material”, before adding that “there is no specific threat to public safety or to the celebrations of Anzac Day, which is celebrated on April 25 and commemorates the soldiers who fought in the Battle of Gallipoli in the First World War.

The deputy commissioner of the New South Wales Police, David Hudson, later explained that, as a result of the attack, “people related (to the attacker) have been identified who require attention and investigation by the Police.” “We believe that they follow an ideology motivated by religion, violent and extremist,” he stressed, as reported by the SBS television network.

The Australian Police stated last week that they were investigating what happened as a “terrorist act” and added that the 16-year-old detainee was known to the authorities, although “he has not been on any terrorist watch list.” The event took place days after the death of six people in another knife attack in a shopping center in Sydney, although it was ruled out that it was a terrorist attack.
