Samsung begins manufacturing 3-nanometer chips with its MBCFET technology

As planned, Samsung has started the manufacture of the first 3-nanometer chips in its facilities with its MBCFET (GAAFET) technology, making the leap from the previous FinFet used until now in the most advanced chips.

It is the first time that chips have been manufactured with this MBCFET technologyand the first chips will be aimed at high-performance, low-power computing systems, although later they will make the leap to mobile processors made with this technology.

The first 3nm chips have been manufactured in the facilities of Hwaseong (South Korea), the country where Samsung itself originates.

Samsung promises up to 23% more performance with 45% less consumption

With this technology, 3 nanometer chips promise a 45% less energy consumed, 23% more performance and up to 16% less surface area occupied, at least if we compare them with similar chips but manufactured following the 5 nanometer process.

In addition, the company’s calculations already speak of the second generation of 3 nanometers, with which they will be able to increase these figures to 50% less consumption, 30% more performance and all this in 35% less area.
