Nintendo Switch users are still waiting for news from Metroid Prime on the platform (either 1, 2, 3 or 4). However, it seems that the management could go another way according to a new rumor, which indicates that they are already working on a new metroid in 2D.
as you surely know, Metroid Dread launched in October 2021 achieving the greatest success of the franchise, all thanks to the tremendous work done by the Spanish team at MercurySteam.
Now, a leaker who spoke about the game a year before its release, and also before Nintendo announced it, is claiming that the studio is already working on another 2D title that would arrive in 2025.

As you could see, the rumor comes from the Twitter user known as Nash Weedle “The Leaks Analyst”, who recovered the images of 2 tweets he made in 2020 and early 2021 confirming that Metroid Dread would arrive.
Most important of all, it now ensures that a new installment, with a similar style to the last one, is being developed by MercurySteam and is scheduled to launch in 2025.

It is worth mentioning that it is not unreasonable to think that the Spanish study gained enough confidence for Nintendo to let it continue with the franchise but, if this information is true, it would be even more difficult to understand if there are really plans to continue with it.
