The editor-in-chief of the Russian public television channel RT France, Ksenia Federova, has announced the end of the activity of the media outlet as a result of the blocking of its accounts.
“The channel’s accounts have been blocked at the request of the General Treasury Department of the French Ministry of Economy and Finance,” Federova explained this Saturday in a message posted on Twitter. “Our channel cannot continue with its activities,” she has indicated.
The channel’s website has published a statement in which it explains that these measures make it impossible for the medium to function and highlights that 123 French workers have been left unemployed, of whom 77 are journalists with press cards.
“After five years of tenacious struggle, the authorities have achieved their goal, the closure of RT France,” the television station said in its statement.
“The closure of RT France and the deafening silence of other French media and journalists is only the first of a series of very dangerous steps, because after our channel they will go to other media,” he argued.
Last Thursday the newspaper ‘Le Monde’ reported the blocking of RT France accounts and the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced retaliatory measures against French media in Russia.
The Russian public television RT and the Sputnik news agency have been prohibited from broadcasting in the EU since March 2022 and the judicial appeals filed in this regard have not been successful.
