Ricky Martin says domestic abuse allegations are ‘fabricated’

A judge in Puerto Rico has issued a domestic violence-related restraining order against singer Ricky Martin, local authorities announced Saturday, accusations the Latin pop icon’s representatives called “false and fabricated.”

The order was signed on Friday and police visited a wealthy neighborhood in the town of Dorado, where the 50-year-old singer lives, to try to enforce the order, according to police spokesman Axel Valencia.

“So far, the police have not been able to find him,” Valencia said.

It was not immediately known who requested the restraining order, and police said they could not release details about the matter because the order was filed under Puerto Rico’s domestic violence law.

El Vocero, a Puerto Rican newspaper, reported on Saturday that the order states that Martin and the other person dated for seven months. The outlet cites the order as saying they separated two months ago, but the petitioner alleges that Martin did not accept the separation and has loitered near the petitioner’s home at least three times.

“The petitioner fears for his safety,” El Vocero quoted the order as saying.

Valencia said the order prohibits the “Livin’ la Vida Loca” singer from contacting or calling the person who filed it, and that a judge will decide later during a hearing whether the order should be upheld or lifted.

Valencia noted that the person who requested the restraining order did not contact police, which would have required prosecutors to determine if there was enough evidence to press charges. Instead, the request went directly to the court.

In response, Martin’s legal representatives denied the claims to People Y Telemundo in stories published Saturday night.

“The allegations against Ricky Martin leading to a protection order are completely false and fabricated,” they told the outlet. “We are very confident that when the true facts come to light in this matter, our client Ricky Martin will be fully vindicated.”

The news comes later Martin was slapped last week with a $3 million lawsuit from his former manager Rebecca Drucker for unpaid commissions.

“Martin completely and maliciously refused to pay Rebecca the millions of dollars in commissions he owes her under his management agreement,” says part of the 15-page lawsuit filed Wednesday.

in a newly released documentaryAlthough no specific accusations are made against Martin, members of his former boy band, Menudo, alleged that they were subjected to sexual abuse, intimidation, coupled with oppressive working conditions, and were exposed to drugs at a young age.

But Martin, who is not interviewed in HBO Max’s four-part docuseries “Menudo: Forever Young,” made life difficult for his peers, according to Sergio Blass, who was part of the group from 1986 to 1990.

“Being with Ricky was brutal because he had more seniority than me,” Blass said. “So if someone knocked on the door, I had to open it. If the phone rang, he had to answer it. I was like his housewife.”
