Retired astronaut Buzz Aldrin marries ‘lifelong love’ on his 93rd birthday

() — Their wedding must have been like from another planet.

Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin, who became the second person to set foot on the moon in 1969 after crewmate Neil Armstrong, married his “lifelong love” on his 93rd birthday Friday.

The former astronaut announced his wedding On twitter.

“On my 93rd birthday and the day I will also be honored by Living Legends of Aviation, I am pleased to announce that my longtime love, Dr. Anca Faur, and I have married,” Aldrin wrote.

“We were joined in holy matrimony in a small private ceremony in Los Angeles and we are as excited as two teenagers on the run.”

He posted two photos of himself in a tuxedo next to Faur, who is wearing a sparkly, long-sleeved gown.

Aldrin also thanked his followers for the birthday wishes in another tweet on Friday. “It means a lot and I look forward to serving a greater cause for many more orbits around the Sun,” he wrote.

In July 1969, Mission Commander Armstrong, Lunar Module Pilot Buzz Aldrin, and Command Module Pilot Michael Collins lifted off on Apollo 11 on a journey of more than 250,000 miles to the Moon. It took them four days to reach their destination.

Armstrong was on the moon’s surface for two hours and 32 minutes and Aldrin, who followed him, spent about 15 minutes less.

The two astronauts put up an American flag, collected moon rocks and conducted science experiments before returning to the spacecraft. They also spoke to President Richard Nixon in the Oval Office over the radio.

The three astronauts returned home to a heroes’ welcome.
