The Judicial Police of Portugal has confirmed this Thursday that the search work around the Arade dam has finished and that it will deliver the material collected to the German authorities to continue with the investigation in the context of the disappearance of the girl Madeleine McCann ago. 16 years.
“To safeguard the interests of the ongoing investigation in Portugal, the collected material will be handed over to the German authorities, in accordance with the rules of international judicial cooperation,” it said in a statement.
Portuguese, German and British troops began a new search around the dam on Tuesday morning after a request made by the German Prosecutor’s Office, the country where the only suspect identified so far in this case, Christian Brueckner, remains in custody.
The Portuguese authorities established a wide perimeter and prohibited that on the area – located about 50 kilometers from Praia da Luz, the place where the track of the minor was lost when she was with her family on vacation in the Algarve – -, fly over aircraft, including drones.
The case took a new turn in 2020, when German police identified Brueckner as a suspect in McCann’s disappearance. This 45-year-old man is already serving a sentence and is also pending another trial for sexual crimes allegedly perpetrated between 2000 and 2017.
