Moroccan Police arrest 59 sub-Saharans and foil an attempt to jump the Ceuta fence

June 26 () –

The Moroccan Police has arrested 59 sub-Saharan migrants between the towns of Tetuán and Castillejos this Sunday when they were preparing to launch a massive attempt to jump the Ceuta border fence, as reported by the Moroccan authorities.

A group of Sub-Saharans gathered this Sunday morning with the intention of crossing the border, but they were intercepted on their way from Tetouan to Castillejos (Fnideq), a town on the border with Ceuta, according to the Moroccan news portal le360.ma. .

The migrants carried iron objects and material to facilitate climbing the border fence. The authorities have confirmed 59 arrests that have made it possible to thwart the jump.

The operation has been coordinated by the Tetouan Police Headquarters and the General Directorate of Surveillance of the National Territory has participated in it. A judicial investigation has been opened into the facts to try to clarify all the possible ramifications of this attempt.

On Friday, at least 23 people died -27 according to the NGOs- due to the response of the Moroccan security forces to an attempt by some 2,000 sub-Saharans to jump the Melilla fence.
