The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, received this Thursday at the Elysée his counterpart from Senegal, Diomaye Faye, winner of the March elections, and conveyed his interest in relaunching bilateral relations for the sake of “common democratic values.” and “unbreakable human ties.”
Macron has highlighted on social networks the importance of this first meeting, from which a joint statement has been issued with which France and Senegal want to show their strength after a few months marked by political instability in the African country, following the sudden postponement of the presidential elections.
The two parties have agreed to give “new impetus” to this alliance based on “mutual respect” and have committed to strengthening ties in sectors that can contribute to the development of Senegal, such as “the energy transition, health , vocational training, local vaccine production and agriculture”.
Faye has been one of the leaders invited to the Forum for Sovereignty and Innovation in Vaccines in Paris, from where the Senegalese president has advocated strengthening production capacity in Africa, since despite representing 20 percent of the world’s population It only concentrates the manufacturing of 0.25 percent of the doses.
