The electricity will rise this Wednesday about 20% to 436.25 euros the megawatt hour (MWh), your fourth highest price since there are records, according to the results of the auction in the wholesale market or “pool” and the adjustment to be paid after the gas cap to compensate the plants that use this material.

Also, this price is the highest since the cap on gas came into force -June 15-, and the highest since March 9, almost two weeks after the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and just one day after marking what is still its historical maximum today (544 .98 euros/MWh).

However, according to data from the electricity market operator OMIE and the Iberian Gas Market (Mibgas), the wholesale price of electricity (the one paid by consumers with a regulated rate) will be almost 66 euros lower compared to 502.11 euros to which the MWh would have been paid if you don’t have the gas cap destined for electricity generation.

In a context marked by the energy instability that Europe is suffering, electricity continues to show very high values in the main economies of the continent, where the MWh will exceed tomorrow widespread and for the second day in a row the 600 euros/MWh.

Specifically, in France will reach a average price of 645.54 euros/MWh, in front of the £539.48/MWh (about 640 euros at the current exchange rate) of United Kingdom.

For its part, in Italy the price will be €637.76.23/MWh, Meanwhile in Germany will reach the €624.34/MWh.

In Portugalwhere the cap on gas is also applied by virtue of the so-called “Iberian exception”, the auction price has marked the same as in Spaina country with which it shares a market.

Auction and adjustment

In the case of considering only the wholesale market auction resultswithout including the adjustment that the beneficiaries of the gas cap must pay to compensate the plants that use this material, electricity will rise by just over 2%, to 186.95 euros/MWh.

By fringes hours (and always without including the aforementioned adjustment), the price maximum will be recorded between 22:00 and 23:00, with 236.79 euros/MWh; while the minimum will be 140.07 euros/MWh, between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

However, at these amounts it is necessary to add the cost of the adjustment to the gas plantsthe amount of which varies depending on the volume needed by the system and its price, and has repercussions on beneficiary households and companies.

For morningthe mean setting for consumers it will be 249.3 euros/MWhmore than 60 euros above the average price of the auction and the highest compensation price during the entire period, with which the final price will be 436.25 euros/MWh, four times more than a year ago.
