Judge in Puerto Rico issues protection order against Ricky Martin

( Spanish) — The Puerto Rico police confirmed on Saturday through a press release that “it is in the process of filing a protection order, under Law 54, issued against Mr. Enrique Martin”, known in the entertainment world as Ricky Martin. The artist denied the allegations that led to the order.

Law 54 was created in 1989 to establish a set of measures aimed at preventing and combating domestic violence in Puerto Rico.

According to the authorities, the order was issued by Judge Raiza Cajigas Campbell of the Court of First Instance of San Juan, after an ex parte request and that, as it is a case under Law 54, the police do not disclose the name of the person who applied for the order.

“The allegations against Ricky Martin, leading to a protection order, are completely false. We are confident that when the true facts come to light in this matter, our client Ricky Martin will be fully vindicated,” the artist’s legal team said in written statements.

Meanwhile, the police explained how the process was handled. “From the moment the uniformed officer received a copy of the protection order, through the new Protection Order Operations and Processing Center (COPOP) of the Puerto Rico Police, its processing was coordinated by the agents,” read part of the statement.
