Israel will examine the bullet that killed journalist Shirín abu Aklé

July 3 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Israeli Army announced this Sunday that its troops, against the wishes of the Palestinian Authority, will be present at the examination of the bullet that killed the Palestinian-American journalist Shirín abu Aklé in the West Bank on May 11.

The Palestinian Authority reported on Saturday the delivery of the bullet that killed the journalist for expert examination to the United States under the certainty that it was fired by an Israeli soldier while the reporter was covering a confrontation in Jenin. However, she has always spoken out against collaboration with Israel, whom she has accused of muddying up the investigation.

In fact, the conclusions of the independent investigation carried out by the United Nations Office for Human Rights on the death of the journalist coincide with the evaluation carried out by the Palestinian authorities and which point to the Israeli forces as being responsible for the death of the reporter. .

The conclusions of the investigation also dismantle the narrative that there was activity by armed Palestinians in the vicinity of the position where the reporters were, as Israel pointed out at the time. The Army has admitted the possibility that the journalist died from a shot fired by its own forces, but always unintentionally.

Now, the Israeli military spokesman Ran Kochav has assured, in statements collected by the Hebrew newspaper ‘Haaretz’, that the bullet that hit the journalist’s head and caused her death on the spot “will be subjected to an Israeli professional test”.

“This is a control of the Israeli Army in the presence of the United States,” Kochav declared before assuring that the Palestinian side was aware that Israel would end up examining the bullet in the presence of the Americans.

The Deputy Minister of the Interior, Yoav Segalovitz, explained this Sunday to the Israeli Army radio that the tests could last several days and several experts will be involved in them to “verify that this is an unequivocal opinion and that there are no more twists like those we’ve had in the last month, month and a half”.
