Iran dismisses the person in charge of the protection of Ayatollah Khamenei

Iran calls Israel's accusations of plot to attack Israelis in Turkey 'ridiculous'

June 25. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Hasan Mashrueifar took office this Saturday as the new commander of the Vali Amr unit – in charge of the personal security of the Iranian supreme leader, Ali Khamenei – just a few days after the dismissal of the head of the secret services of the Revolutionary Guard.

The commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard –the ideological and elite military section of the Iranian Armed Forces–, Hossein Salami, has appointed Mashrueifar to replace Ebrahim Jabari, head of this unit since 2010, according to the news agency Iranian semi-official Tasnim, citing a Revolutionary Guards spokesman, Ramezan Sharif. It has not been specified if Sharif will have a new destination.

Last Thursday, Hossein Taeb, head of the intelligence section of the Revolutionary Guard since 2009, was also replaced. These changes follow the assassination in recent weeks of several senior members of the Revolutionary Guard.

Jabari was Taeb’s ‘number two’ in 2009 when he led the Basij paramilitary militia, involved in the repression of dissent inside Iran.
