Hundreds of demonstrators took to the streets in the city of Accra on Wednesday to protest the cost of living and corruption in Ghana before a strong police force that tried to disperse the crowd with tear gas.
The Police have been deployed in the city around 4:00 p.m. (local time) on an important three-tier road in the city, which has caused tensions between the protesters, who carried banners and megaphones and the strong device.
According to a statement from the Directorate of Public Affairs, collected by the Ghana Web news portal, the previous day the State security forces and bodies arrested 29 protesters for “their participation in violent attacks” against members of the Police.
“The government must be responsible enough to address the needs of the population. We continue to press our concerns, but nobody cares, fuel prices continue to rise while ordinary Ghanaians continue to wallow in poverty,” said the minister. former president of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Benard MornĂ¡, as reported by the newspaper ‘Ghanaian Times’.
The protest this Wednesday, which has preceded other concentrations this Tuesday, is expected to start from the El Wak Stadium, and end in Parliament, according to different local Ghanaian media.
