Google triples its economic impact in Mexico and launches its wallet in the country

One of the great challenges in the country, to achieve greater digital adoption, is the digital and banking gap that exists.

According to technology, 45% of rural communities use the Internet, while 77% of the population use it in the city. However, the use of cash is still prevailing because of what the company will bring to the country google-walleta service that it has in other parts of the world and that will come to complement digital payment services.

In addition to having an economic impact, the company has made it possible for companies to save money in their operations, thanks to the use of Android applications, which represents 7.9 billion dollars. Google reported that, in 2019, Android generated an economic impact of 375,000 million pesos in the country, according to its report on the Economic and Social Impact of Android in Mexico.

This represented approximately 1.5% of the Gross Domestic Product that was generated in the country, according to the consultancy in charge of making the report, Bain & Company. Who also estimated that there were 280,000 jobs involved in the value chain around Android.

In order to maintain a specialized workforce, the company is also focusing on creating courses and giving scholarships to study digital skills.

Bearing this in mind, the company has impacted 1.9 million people with programs such as Grow with Google, where for the last 6 years it has had different courses and training programs.

By the end of 2022 they hope to reach 100,000 people trained through their scholarship program.

“By 2030, 9 out of 10 jobs will require some level of digital skills, and Mexico has the opportunity to develop these skills,” said Lisa Gevelber, director of marketing at Americas.

The executive also indicates that the gap in the region is greater than in others, which is why they seek to give courses on IT support, project management, user experience design and data analysis. This in order to cover 20% of the job offers that are currently on national job boards.

In order to include more people in these programs, the company will donate 200 million pesos to southeast Mexico in order to close the gender and employment gap in this area of ​​the country.
