The French authorities have summoned Iran’s ambassador to the country, Mohamad Amin Nejad, this Friday to demand the “immediate” release of the three French citizens who are detained in the Middle Eastern country and who Paris considers “kidnapped hostages.” ” by Tehran.
The French Foreign Ministry has indicated in a statement that the situation these citizens are going through is “intolerable”, especially due to the “terrible detention conditions” they face. “Some amount to torture, according to International Law,” he denounced.
Thus, he noted that the Government “remains fully committed to the liberation of French compatriots” and to offering support to “their families and friends.” In this sense, he has once again advised French citizens to avoid traveling to Iran under any circumstances and to leave the territory as far as possible due to the danger of “being arbitrarily detained.”
The call comes in the midst of the deterioration of bilateral relations between both countries and a day after Iran condemned the “insulting” advertising poster recently published by the Mayor’s Office of a city in the south of France in which the Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
This is not the first time that the French Government has denounced Iran’s “hostage policy” and the “continuous blackmail” exercised by the country’s authorities in relation to the detention of its citizens. However, Iranian authorities criticized the Elysée’s “interventionist” and “inappropriate” stance, asserting that these people were arrested based on “solid evidence.”
