Ethiopia denies its responsibility in the murders of a civilian and seven Sudanese soldiers

June 28. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Government of Ethiopia has denied this Monday that its Army is responsible for the murders of a civilian and seven Sudanese soldiers, as stated by the Sudanese Executive.

“The Ethiopian Government regrets the loss of life as a result of a confrontation between the Sudanese Army and a militia of which an investigation has been launched,” it says in a statement published on social networks by the Ethiopian Foreign Ministry.

In this sense, the Ethiopian authorities have “categorically rejected the misrepresentation of these facts by the Sudanese Defense Forces.”

The Sudanese Armed Forces earlier Monday accused the Ethiopian Army of executing a civilian and seven captive Sudanese soldiers and displaying their bodies in public. Sudan assured that it would retaliate against Ethiopia for this event.

For its part, the Ethiopian government has blamed the incident on the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Tigray (TPLF).

The tension between both countries has increased due to the offensive of the Ethiopian forces against the TPLF rebels.

A “humanitarian truce” is currently in force, although both sides of the conflict in Ethiopia have accused each other of preventing the delivery of aid. The TPLF accuses Abiy of stirring up tensions since he came to power in April 2018, when he became the first Oromo to take office.
