June 17 () –
A total of 52 of Serbia’s 174 municipalities and cities have declared a state of emergency in the face of damage caused by heavy rains, which have so far forced the evacuation of 217 people in the last 24 hours. In total there are 314 evacuees.
The water has flooded houses, caused damage to roads and caused the collapse of bridges. The most significant damage has been concentrated in the Kraljevo region, in the center of the country, and also in western Serbia, reports the public television channel RTS.
The flood has washed away a bridge on the Ibar highway as it passes through Adrane, near Kraljevo, and the Ministry of Transport has already announced the construction of a new bridge. Another bridge has been destroyed in Mrcajevci.
A spokesman for the Emergency Department, Milos Milenkovic, has indicated that the situation at the moment is calm, but the rescue services continue to work in municipalities such as Kucevo, Kraljevo or Jagodina.
