Editorial policy

This page explains how what you read here is made. We put it in writing because readers are entitled to know where their news comes from.

How we choose stories

We continuously monitor the news feeds of major international outlets. When the same story appears across several of them at once, we treat it as significant and develop it. Click counts play no part in the decision.

We deliberately exclude the routine filler every outlet publishes daily and that is not news: lottery draws, horoscopes and daily currency rates.

Use of artificial intelligence

Some of our copy is drafted with the help of artificial intelligence tools, always from information published by named outlets and under fixed rules: invent nothing, copy no sentences, offer no opinion, always credit the source.

We say so openly, because hiding it would be misleading our readers. Responsibility for what is published is ours, not the tool’s.

Sources and attribution

Every piece names the outlet that reported the information first and links to its publication. Direct quotes appear in quotation marks and are attributed to whoever said them.

We do not republish photographs from the source outlets: those are usually agency images and using them would be an infringement. We illustrate with freely licensed images, and where a picture does not depict the events described we say so explicitly in the caption.

What we do not automate

Some subjects can cause real harm when written without human judgement, and they stay out: investment advice, betting, cryptocurrency, medical advice and opinion pieces.

We also do not illustrate stories involving minors or identifiable victims with photographs.

Corrections

We fix mistakes rather than bury them. If you find an error, write to [email protected] with the link and what is wrong. Where a correction changes the meaning of a story, it is noted on the piece itself.

Advertising and commercial content

This site is funded by advertising and commercial agreements. No advertiser decides what we publish or reviews our copy before it goes out.
