Chelsea Handler is ready to bring her controversial punchlines to late-night television.
After hosting “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” this week, while the resident host was on vacation, Handler, 47, said variety who is interested in her own program.
“Obviously I have very strong and loud opinions and I like to share them,” he admitted. “Especially at a time like this, it’s nice for a lot of people to have a female voice.”
He used his “Kimmel” monologues to make fun and make statements about topics such as Supreme Court overturns Roe v. wadethe sentence of Ghislaine Maxwell and R. Kelly, and the January 6 hearings about the 2021 insurrection.
“And it really got me thinking. These conversations happen every couple of years about whether or not I want to go back on the late night show or I want to go back on a talk show, and I always think of some reason why I don’t want to do it,” she said. at the interview
“I feel like this is a moment,” Handler continued, “where it’s so important to be represented and represent women and remind people why it’s so important to be loud and strong and be relentless about it and get up and say something. A lot of people take comfort in having someone speak for them, you know, not just a white guy, who I’m sure is on our side, but he’s just different.
“There really isn’t anyone who can experience what it’s like to be a woman other than one of us. So if anyone else comments on that, white male opinions are pretty irrelevant.”
The current lineup for the night is made up exclusively of men at the major networks. Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, Stephen Colbert, Seth Meyers and Trevor Noah aren’t going anywhere anytime soon, but there will be a slot available once. James Corden leaves the “Late Late Show” the next summer.
Handler, however, claimed that he has not had any conversations with the CBS bigwigs.
“Personally, I haven’t had any conversations with anyone other than my agents, and they were just testing the waters to see how interested I was, so I haven’t spoken to anyone directly about a specific space,” she said. “But yeah, I’m interested in dating again. So I’ll talk to all these people about what those opportunities look like and if that’s the right place for me. I will consider it when the conversation matches my level of interest.”
Handler expressed the idea of restarting his E! “Chelsea lately” talk show, which ran from 2007 to 2014, as “Chelsea Later.”
“It’s the same problem as the white man. There are too many white men doing the same job,” he told Variety.
“I can’t explain why there aren’t more women hosting shows; maybe it’s a lack of interest, but I doubt it. I think people think it’s a man’s job,” she added.
“I thought I made a big impact by doing my show and showing people that you can be a woman and host a late-night show, but it seems like people need to be reminded of that one more time,” she continued. “And I could be that person to remind them.”
On Tuesday’s episode, the ever-controversial Handler claimed her New Jersey high school won’t induct her into his hall of fame because she has been open about having abortions.
However, Livingston Public Schools officials told The Post that his claims “are false.”
