Baldur’s Gate III details the Dark Lust, the latest Origin character

During the Last Panel From Hell, some transmissions that throughout the last months Larian Studios has used to talk about the state of development of Baldur’s Gate III, Dark Hunger, the last character of Origin, has been discovered, and talked about the importance of character creation and the chances of romance. As recently announced, Baldur’s Gate III will be available on August 3 for PC and September 6 for PS5.

The Dark Lust, which defaults to a pale-skinned dragonborn, rounds out the roster of playable Origin characters. Unlike the rest, the Dark Hunger is fully customizable, allowing the player to choose their class, appearance, race, and gender. Those who start the Baldur’s Gate 3 campaign in the role of Dark Hunger will start out having lost their memory and will only feel an impulse. As those who have followed the development of the game will already know, the modus operandi of this character is simple: kill brutally and indiscriminately.

“Playing as Dark Hunger will lead you to commit the greatest atrocities and violent acts that you can find in the game,” explains Larian Studios. “This path entails giving in to your darkest desires or resisting them. The Dark Lust will have its consciousness guided by Sceleritas Fel, voiced by actor Brian Bowles (the narrator in Divinity: Original Sin 2). Fel is a vile but loyal servant who lives only to see Dark Hunger return to her scarred and bloody path. His words of encouragement will be like poison injected into your mind, fueling your impulses, though this poison can taste sweet if you want it to.”

Despite impulses like Dark Hunger, the character is still part of a group that will try to be by his side. It is also possible to have relationships and romances, but how they manifest is another story.

Regarding character creation, Larian Studios says that “character identity is the cornerstone of Baldur’s Gate III,” so the game will allow you to customize everything from appearance to stats to age, body type, background, if he is a hero or villain…. “[…] the character creator gives you total freedom to express yourself,” the team says. When the game is available, the following news will be added.

  • New skin options like freckles, scars and vitiligo
  • new tattoo designs
  • heterochromia
  • Customization of lip makeup
  • Accessories such as earrings and piercing
Genitals also appear in the customization options.

As for romance, Larian Studios has agreed to “give people what they ask for,” including “affectionate and consensual romance options with a man temporarily transformed into a grizzly bear.” Baldur’s Gate III will offer many opportunities for romance with characters that develop closer together, and no relationship will follow an identical formula. Emotional intimacy can lead to physical desire and passion can spark romance at any time. “These relationships can lead to vulnerable and tender bonds if they are given the necessary care and attention,” warns the team.
