Australian authorities evacuate tens of thousands of people due to flooding in Sydney

July 4. () –

Australian authorities on Monday ordered the evacuation of tens of thousands of Sydney residents after heavy rains caused flooding in the country.

The commissioner of the Australian state of New South Wales has reported that there have been 3,900 requests for assistance and 85 rescues due to the floods, according to ‘The Sydney Morning Herald’.

In this context, a cargo ship with 21 crew members on board has been stranded by the storm near the coast in front of the cliffs of the Royal National Park.

“We don’t know exactly what went wrong with the engine,” said Port Authority of New South Wales Incident Controller John Finch.

“The crew believes that what has happened is that the main engine turbine has exploded,” added Finch.

Workers aboard three tugboats and the 21 crew members aboard the 169-meter-long vessel are trying to recover the two steel anchor cables that have come loose to hold the ship in place and prevent it from crashing. against the cliffs.

In March, Australian authorities reported the deaths of nine people in Queensland from massive flooding that hit the country for days.
