Aubrey Square is sharing heartbreaking new details about the experience of suffering a stroke at just 20 years old.
Appearing in “The Howard Stern ShowOn Wednesday, Plaza said she was briefly paralyzed and unable to speak after the stroke, which occurred while she was still a student at New York University.
“It happened mid-sentence,” the “Parks and Recreation” and “White Lotus” actor explained. “I took the train to Astoria [in Queens, New York] “I was out to lunch with my friends. I walked into their apartment… I hadn’t even taken my jacket off and, mid-sentence, it just happened. That’s when I froze.”
He said he was able to regain some of his motor skills after about a minute, adding: “The weirdest thing was that I forgot how to talk… it was scary. I thought I would never speak again.”
Plaza, a native of Delaware, has recognized having had a stroke in the past. In a Interview 2017 On NPR’s Fresh Air, the actress recalled how paramedics initially thought she was dehydrated or had been using drugs because of her young age. She also attributed the stroke to her use of a birth control pill that she no longer takes.

And although he underwent cognitive therapy to regain his ability to speak and write, he said the experience continues to impact his approach to both his career and his private life.
“I’m always aware of how precious life is and I try to remind myself of that every day,” she said. “I tend to look at the bigger picture or I try to look at the bigger picture and I try not to take things so seriously and try not to get hung up on the little things… I have a general feeling that life is short and it’s best to do as much as I can. Maybe that’s why I’m so busy.”
Plaza returns to the big screen this month in two new films: “My old ass”, which opens on Friday, and “Megalopolis”, which premieres on September 27.
Elsewhere in her chat with Stern, Plaza said she was “shocked” when she was asked to audition for “Megalopolis,” directed by the five-time Oscar winner. Francis Ford Coppola.
“I thought, ‘How am I on their radar?’ And then I never thought I would actually get that role.” She noticed“I thought, ‘Well, I’ll do the meeting, of course,’ but I didn’t think I was going to get the part, and I was actually surprised when I got it.”
