At least 25 dead after Russian attack on a Ukrainian train station

This Thursday, August 25, the consequences of the Russian attack that took place last Wednesday at the train station in Chaplyne, in the Dnipropetrovsk region, are known.

According to the latest balance released by the Ukrainian authorities, the number of deaths increased to 25, including two minors, and the injured amounted to 31. This in the framework of the commemoration of a new Ukrainian Independence Day.

“A child died under the rubble of a house. Another, six-year-old, died in a car near the train station,” the deputy head of the presidential office, Kyrylo Tymoshenko, detailed on Telegram. The official said that the search and rescue operations have concluded.

This advance of the Russian Army was denounced for the first time by President Volodimir Zelensky in a videoconference speech before the United Nations Security Council, describing that the projectiles hit the wagons directly.

“Chaplyne is our pain today. We will hold the occupiers accountable for all that they have done. And we will certainly expel the invaders from our land, ”emphasized the president in his nightly declarations.

For its part, Russia gave its version on Thursday in which it denies that the targets were civilians and asserts that it attacked a military train, the Defense Ministry said.

As indicated by the military portfolio in its daily briefing, an Iskander missile hit the transport located in Chaplyne that was moving towards the front line of the Donbass region.

Along with the train station attack, Moscow also noted that eight fighter jets were destroyed at air bases in Poltava and Denipropetrovsk.

The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, emphatically repudiated the event and remarked that he was “horrified”.

“Our thoughts are with the families. War crimes will not go unpunished”, she warned and concluded by stressing that “international solidarity with Ukraine will not give up”.

IAEA prepares for visit to Zaporizhia

In dialogue with the English version of France 24, the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, explained that there is an agreement with Russia and Ukraine for a mission from the entity to gain access to the intimidated plant nuclear plant in Zaporizhia, something that is “very, very close”.

According to the Argentine, this incursion, which he described as “extremely complex”, did not receive “political objections”.

Grossi announced that the trip would take place “in the next few days” and they are working on the last “details”. “We cannot risk that, in addition to the war, there is a nuclear accident,” he stressed.

The official stressed that they need security guarantees to approach the conflict zone and celebrated that there is a “general recognition” that the presence of the IAEA in Zaporizhia is necessary.

“The military operations have worsened, the plant has become a target that has not been exempt from maneuvers for the military,” he concluded.
