Apple releases a firmware update for its MagSafe cables

Apple has released a firmware update for one of the remaining devices to even have firmwareand it is that apparently the company’s MagSafe cables have a firmware extensive enough to to require updates for its proper functioning.

This update arrives with version number 3.1.12 and build number 10M1543.this being the first update that the cable has undergone since its launch in 2021 with the MacBook Pro. It is unknown what changes come with this update, as there are no patch notes, but we are unlikely to notice.

There is no direct way to update the firmware of the cable, but it is known that it is specifically for the USB-C to MagSafe 3 Cable (2m)and that it should update automatically when we connect it to our computer, so if we want to make sure it does, we will have to rely on charging the equipment for a while.

It should also be noted that we can only see the firmware of the charger to which we have connected from macOS, so we cannot know what version our cable is in either. Hopefully Apple will provide a way to see this soon if firmware updates to its cables start to become more common.
