The German Justice has imposed a fine of 13,000 euros on the leader of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) in the state of Thuringia, Bjorn Hocke, for proclaiming a Nazi slogan prohibited by the legislation of the European country during a rally in May 2021.
According to Judge Jan Stengel, “it was not credible” that Hocke did not know that he was proclaiming a slogan prohibited in the country, although he rejected the request of the Prosecutor’s Office, which had requested a sentence of up to six months in prison.
The ultra-nationalist deputy, who has defended his innocence and has claimed to feel “a politically persecuted person”, must also bear the costs of the judicial process, according to the German press.
Hocke used the motto ‘Alles für Deutschland’ (translated as ‘Everything for Germany’), used in the 1930s by the Assault Section (SA), the paramilitary affiliate of the National Socialist Party of Germany (NSDAP), the party by Adolf Hitler.
At the beginning of April, the Justice Commission of the Assembly of the German state of Thuringia withdrew the parliamentary immunity of the politician for possible prosecution, who already then denounced a violation of his freedom of expression.
