The jihadist Jonathan Geffroy, originally from Toulouse, has been sentenced this Monday to 18 years in prison by the Special Criminal Court of Paris for a crime of terrorist association to commit a crime. Gefroy was between 2015 and 2017 in Syria and Iraq, where he was a member of the Islamic State.
The court has taken the position of the National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor’s Office, which had questioned the sincerity of Geffroy’s repentance, who traveled to Syria with his wife and son, then two months old, reports French television TF1.
Geffroy, has been tried together with his wife, the Moroccan Latifa Chadli, also 40, like Geffroy himself. She has been sentenced to five years in prison, three of them suspended on probation. The Prosecutor’s Office had requested seven years in prison. Chadli has already served two years in jail, so she will be released.
The court has also sentenced Geffroy’s mother, Denise P., to three years in prison for financing a terrorist company, who sent more than 18,000 euros to her son when he was in Syria. The Prosecutor’s Office had requested ten years in jail.
