Recently, the news circulated in the United States that a 15-year-old girl was kidnapped in Arizona. Fortunately, it is a story that had a positive outcome and that was thanks to a Nintendo Switch.
On August 3, 2022, a 15-year-old girl from Arizona was reported missing. According to reports, the young woman became friends on the Internet with Ethan Roberts, a 28-year-old subject who traveled from Virginia to Arizona to meet her, kidnap her and force her to make adult material.
When he kidnapped her, Roberts allowed the girl to take her Nintendo Switch, which allowed her to be rescued. It turns out that the girl connected her console to the Internet to watch videos on and YouTube and download a game. When she did, a friend noticed that she was online and alerted the authorities.
“It’s probably not something that anyone would have thought of at this point,” Frank Milstead, former director of the Arizona Department of Public Safety, said. “The fact that someone else along the way – another kid – was brilliant enough to say, ‘Hey, look, my friend is online, and she’s been missing, and I have to tell someone.'”

The FBI used this information to get the girl’s Switch IP and find out where she was trapped. Shortly thereafter they went to the scene to arrest Roberts and take him to court on charges of kidnapping to commit criminal sexual activity and production of child pornography. For the above, he will be sentenced to 30 years in prison.
But what happened to the girl? She is already safe in her home after her 11-day abduction. So, it was an unfortunate case that, fortunately, had a positive resolution.
